Farmoor Reservoir is one of the best inland waters in the South of England and home of Oxford Sailing Club.

Oxford Sail Training Trust is recognised by the Royal Yachting Association as a Teaching Establishment, which means that you can be confident that the standard of tuition and equipment will be excellent. You will follow the RYA dinghy scheme and the certificates are widely recognised.

5-DAY SAILING COURSE (STAGE 1)

If you've never tried sailing before and want to learn the basics of the sport in a really fun way, these courses are definitely for you.

This course provides a short introduction to sailing for beginners. By the end of the introductory course, participants will have a basic understanding of how a boat sails, and some experience of steering and handling a boat.

We have a really fun way of teaching this course, using games and challenges for exercises.

Age limits: 8-15 years

5-DAY SAILING COURSE (STAGE 2)

For those who have tried sailing before and want to learn more about sailing and boat handling, this course is your next step.

Our stage 2 course will complete your introduction to the sport in easy stages. By the end of this course, you will have a range of sailing skills and background knowledge, and be well on your way to being a confident small boat sailor.

stage 4

5-DAY SAILING COURSE (STAGE 3&4)

Our more advanced sailing course for those who have taken Stages 1 and 2. Having completed stage 3 you will be able to rig and launch your boat and can regard yourself as a sailor, not a beginner. Stage 4 will focus on the same skills but with more emphasis on sailing double handed boats whilst solving a variety of problems afloat. Completing this course is the natural step to our Seamanship, CAT & Race courses.

5-DAY SAILING CAT WEEK

A combination of stability and power means our Dart 16 Catamaran's are very fast and offer exhilarating sailing. Multihulls require slightly different sailing techniques compared to boats with single hulls, our multihull courses will help you master the technique, taking you progressively through everything you need to know. Our CAT Week course will open up new sensations and techniques to those sailor's who have been through our Stage 4 course.

5-DAY SAILING SPEED WEEK

For the more experienced sailors, our Speed Week is great fun! You'll learn how to sail a spinnaker on our brand new Fusion 1 PRO dinghies; using this exciting third sail, you will practise your helming and crewing skills, covering power zones and boat speed, balance, and how to hoist, gybe and drop a spinnaker, all whilst working on smooth, fluent sailing. Definitely one for the adrenalin junkies!

This is a course you can do multiple times, unlocking the potential of modern three sail boats.

5-DAY SAILING RACE WEEK

This course is designed to give the confidence, skills and knowledge to take part in racing in good conditions. Involving the sailor in a range of enjoyable exercises designed to build confidence and to improve skills through practice, it will give greater awareness of the key principles of starting, boat handling, boat speed, strategy and tactics.

Seamanship

5-DAY SAILING SEAMANSHIP WEEK

 

On this course you will learn to handle your boat in a seaman like manner. You will work on advanced skills such as Rudderless sailing and enhance other skills and manoeuvres from Stage 4. 
 
Focusing on polishing your skills you will learn how to solve problems afloat, making you a much improved and independent sailor and ready to consider our Young Leader's Programme.
